history

The IndeeTheatre was founded by Philip Chappell and Carol and John Burls in 1994.

Ijbawardnitially, in order to get it off the ground, it was a private enterprise venture funded by the trio. It?s first production, a drama, TV Signals, did a packed two-week season in Noosa. The script by John Burls (later made the initial shortlist of the QTC’s George Landen Dann playwriting competition) was directed by Philip Chappell.

After fifteen months of hiring other venues the trio realised it was simply not flying under its own flag and set about establishing Eumundi as its permanent home. It opened with A Man For All Seasons, directed by Artistic Director, Philip Chappell and did great business, attracting audiences from across the Coast.

Since then The Indee has gone from strength to strength and has had a string of successes, building a strong and loyal audience. It is also the most awarded theatre on the Sunshine Coast.
